Equipping

"...teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”

Cross Lake Equipping is a program that consists of classes and teaching aimed at deepening our theological and doctrinal understanding with an emphasis on how this understanding can draw our hearts closer to God and help grow our faith to bear on our actions.

The Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20 does not stop with evangelism. As followers of Christ, we are called to make disciples of Jesus by teaching them to observe all that He has commanded us. That means that we want people to know God and grow in their faith. The heart of this program is to make disciples, to equip the body to grow up to maturity in their faith, so that we may no longer be children tossed to and fro (Ephesians 4:12-16). Our desire is that each person who goes through this program would gain knowledge and understanding about God and their faith and in doing so that their hearts would be transformed.

Classes are offered at different times throughout the year; we invite you to join us!

The Gospel of Mark

  1. Course Description:

The Gospel of Mark is one of the first accounts of the life of Jesus of Nazareth. In its pages are chronicled many of the miracles, teachings, and stories of Jesus. But Mark did not randomly throw this account together. He very carefully designed this story of Jesus to make his readers ask specific questions. He wanted the reader to consider who Jesus was and if there was any validity to the claims He made. Ultimately leading the reader to be forced to make a decision of what to do with this Jesus. How can understanding the big picture of Mark help us understand Jesus? How do we approach the text in a way that helps us understand the authors intent and ask good questions? In this interactive workshop we will explore this book in a meaningful way that will help us gain greater understanding and challenge the way we approach Scripture.

  1. Class Objectives:

After completing this class, students will:

  • Learn how to identify the author’s main point in writing this book.
  • Understand how the Gospel of Mark connects to the Bible’s central story.
  • Develop techniques that will help us better understand and apply not only the book of Mark but all of Scripture.

  • Class Schedule*:

Tuesday Evenings, 6:30 – 8:00 PM

 December 3rd, 10th, and 17th

Course Structure:

Each class will be structured around three elements:

  1. Interactive Elements: This course will be interactive. Our goal is not to spoon feed information but give you the techniques and practices that will help you unlock Scripture for yourself.

  1. Lecture and Teaching: Each class will consist of a time of lecture and teaching focused on the specific topic of the day.

  1. Workshops: Each class will include a time to practice what we have been learning in a group setting. This hands-on time will help us grow more comfortable putting in practice the things we are learning
